Meet Amanda
For the past few years, Amanda Carney has been quietly leading the charge for Camden’s cats. A dedicated Head Start teacher by day and tireless rescuer by night, Amanda founded Head Start Animal Rescue (HSAR) to serve one of the most underserved cities in New Jersey—Camden.
Camden has no animal shelter and no in-city veterinary clinic. Yet the number of stray and feral cats is staggering. With few resources and no institutional support, Amanda has stepped in where others won’t. She’s feeding colonies, setting traps, transporting cats for TNVR, and fostering those who can’t be returned.
She works closely with Forgotten Cats to access low-cost spay/neuter services and medical care, but the demand far exceeds the funds she has. Amanda is currently focused on one urgent goal: spay/neuter 10 cats from the city’s most at-risk colonies—and this is where you come in.
About the Colonies
Amanda traps and cares for cats across Camden’s most neglected areas, including abandoned homes, empty lots, and back alleys near the school district where she teaches. Most colonies are made up of unsterilized strays, many of them dumped or born on the streets.
One kitten named Souffle was trapped outside a boarded-up house on North 34th Street. She was presumed feral, but after her TNVR surgery, she began meowing in foster care—and turned out to be friendly. She’s now waiting for her forever family.
Your support means more cats like Souffle can escape life on the streets and begin a new chapter.

Why We’re Starting With $500
This campaign will cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines for 10 community cats. Each procedure costs $50 at Forgotten Cats, including transportation, anesthesia, recovery, and rabies vaccination.
This is just the beginning. Camden’s colonies need ongoing support, and we’re working with Amanda to develop a longer-term rescue roadmap. Your donation helps create a real, sustainable plan—starting now.

Rescue Timeline:
This is an ongoing initiative. Amanda traps as soon as funds and clinic space allow. With donor support, she can continue TNVR efforts consistently—preventing countless litters and stopping the cycle of suffering.
